Split PDF into ranges, every N pages, or single pages
Split PDF files when one download has to become the pieces a form actually asked for: a signature page, a chapter, or a file per page. You pick the split mode, the page builds a new PDF for each group, and the source stays in the list until you start over. Nothing in that list is sent anywhere.

How to split PDF files
- Add one PDF by dropping it, pasting, or using Choose files. A file that is encrypted asks for the password you already know.
- Choose a split mode: Custom ranges, Every N pages, Every page, or Selected pages. Only the mode you pick is used. The other fields stay on screen and are ignored for that run.
- For custom ranges, type groups separated by a semicolon, such as 1-3; 4-7. For every N pages, set Pages per file. For selected pages, mark the pages on the page list.
- Press Split PDF. Each group is copied into its own document. Page content, size, and rotation are kept. The outline is not copied.
- Download the result. One group is a single PDF. Several groups are separate PDFs, and Download all packs them in a ZIP.
Split PDF options explained
Custom ranges reads the Ranges box. Separate groups with a semicolon. A comma still means pages inside one group, so 1-3, 5 is one PDF and 1-3; 5 is two. A blank range is not a valid group.
Pages per file starts at 2 and can be from 1 to 500. Every N pages walks the document in chunks of that size. The last chunk can be shorter. Every page is the same idea with one page in each file.
Selected pages uses the pages you mark. Those pages become one PDF, in the order you marked them. This mode does not also split that selection into single pages. Use Every page when you want one file per page.
What each part contains
Each part is a new PDF built by copying the pages in that group. Text stays selectable and vector lines stay sharp, because the page is not redrawn. A landscape page stays landscape. Crop boxes travel with the page.
The same page can appear in more than one part if your ranges repeat it. The tool does not merge those overlaps back together. If you needed one continuous file again later, that is a merge, not a second split.
Bookmarks are dropped. The copy carries page content, not the outline tree. Annotations that live on the page are part of the page dictionary and usually come along. A form that spanned the whole original is not reassembled across parts.
When a split is the wrong cut
One range that lists every page you care about is an extract, and Extract PDF pages is the clearer tool for that, including the choice of one PDF per page. Delete pages from PDF is the clearer tool when you want the long file with a few pages gone.
A scan does not gain a text layer by being split. If the original had no real text, neither will the parts. PDF to text will say the file has no text rather than inventing words from the picture.
Limits, formats and output
| Accepted input | |
|---|---|
| Files per batch | 1 |
| Soft size warning | 200 MB or 1,000 pages |
| Hard stop | 500 MB total in memory |
| Output | PDF, or a ZIP when there is more than one file |
| Account | None. The tool runs in this tab. |
Your file never leaves your device
Your PDF is split by a script running in this tab. The work runs in a Web Worker in this tab, using WebAssembly for the heavy parts, and the result comes back as a local blob. This site does not upload the file, store it, or log its name.
To verify: load the page, turn on airplane mode, and drop the file again. It still finishes. Or open DevTools, choose Network, and watch the run: there is no upload. The architecture is described on How it works.
Frequently asked questions
Can the ranges overlap?
Yes. Each semicolon group is copied on its own. If page 2 is in two groups, it appears in two PDFs. The tool does not warn you, because repeating a page is sometimes what you wanted, such as a cover sheet on every chapter.
Why did I get a ZIP?
More than one group means more than one PDF. Each file has its own Download link. Download all packs them in a ZIP so you are not saving them one by one. A single group stays one PDF and does not need a ZIP.
Are bookmarks kept?
No. The new files have no outline. Headings that were real text on the page are still text. Only the sidebar bookmarks are gone. If you depend on those bookmarks, keep the original.
What if the PDF is password protected?
You type the password you already know. A wrong password stops the job. There is no recovery and no attempt to guess. The file stays in the list so you can try the password again.
Does split PDF work offline?
After this page has loaded once, the engines are cached. You can turn on airplane mode and split the same file again. That is also a direct check that the first run did not upload it.
How large a file can I split?
A soft warning appears around 200 MB, and around a very high page count. The hard stop is 500 MB in memory. If the tab warns you, split is already the right idea: cut the file into smaller jobs first if it will not open here.
