Rotate PDF pages without drawing them again

Rotate PDF pages by changing the page rotation entry. The page is not redrawn, so text stays selectable and vector lines stay sharp. You can turn every page or only the pages you select, by 90, 180, or 270 degrees clockwise. The turn is added to any rotation the page already had.

How to rotate PDF pages

  1. Add one PDF. If it is encrypted, type the password you already know.
  2. Set Apply to as All pages or Selected pages. Selected pages uses the pages you mark on the page list.
  3. Set Turn to 90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees, or 270 degrees clockwise.
  4. Press Rotate PDF. The new file copies every page and updates the rotation on the pages you chose. Other pages keep the angle they had.
  5. Download the PDF. Check a page that was already sideways. The angle you picked is added to that existing angle, not a replacement from zero.

Rotate PDF options explained

All pages turns the whole document by the same amount. Selected pages leaves the unmarked pages alone. If you needed a different angle on different pages, run it more than once, or use Organize PDF, where each row can carry its own rotation.

The three turns are 90, 180, and 270 degrees clockwise. 270 clockwise is the same direction as 90 counterclockwise. There is no free-angle slider, because PDF page rotation is stored in quarter turns.

The operation writes the rotation entry. It does not render the page to an image and does not recompress images. File size should stay close to the original, aside from the new file structure. The producer line becomes Upload Nothing (uploadnothing.com).

Why the text still selects

A re-render would bake the glyphs into pixels. This tool does not do that. Readers honour the rotation entry and show the page turned, while the text layer stays text. PDF to text still reads that layer. Search still works.

The stored angle is the previous angle plus your turn, wrapped at 360 degrees. A page that was already at 90 degrees, turned by another 90, is stored at 180. If the result looks upside down, the page was not starting from zero. Turn it again, or pick a different angle.

Crop boxes and page size travel with the copied page. The visible width and height swap in a viewer when the angle is 90 or 270. The underlying media box is not resized by this tool.

What this page will not fix

A photo that looks sideways inside an upright page is not a page rotation. The page entry is already upright, and the image is drawn sideways in the content. Rotating the page would turn the whole page, including the margins. Fix that picture before it was placed, or crop and rebuild.

Bookmarks are not copied into the new file. The outline is dropped because the document is rebuilt by copying pages. Headings that are real text remain on the page.

Limits, formats and output

Accepted input PDF
Files per batch 1
Soft size warning 200 MB or 1,000 pages
Hard stop 500 MB total in memory
Output PDF, or a ZIP when there is more than one file
Account None. The tool runs in this tab.

Your file never leaves your device

Your PDF rotation is changed by a script running in this tab. The work runs in a Web Worker in this tab, using WebAssembly for the heavy parts, and the result comes back as a local blob. This site does not upload the file, store it, or log its name.

To verify: load the page, turn on airplane mode, and drop the file again. It still finishes. Or open DevTools, choose Network, and watch the run: there is no upload. The architecture is described on How it works.

Frequently asked questions

Will rotate PDF blur the text?

No. The page is not re-rendered. The rotation entry changes, and viewers draw the same vectors at the new angle. Text stays selectable. If you need a picture of the page, use PDF to JPG. That does render, and the text becomes pixels.

Can I rotate one page?

Yes. Set Apply to Selected pages and mark that page. The other pages are copied through unchanged. Organize PDF is the better page when you also need to reorder, delete, or insert a blank in the same pass.

Why did a page go upside down?

The turn is added to the angle already stored on the page. A page at 90 degrees plus 90 degrees is 180. Look at the page before you choose the turn. 180 is the control that flips a page that is upside down and was stored at 0.

Does this unlock a password?

No. An encrypted file opens only with the password you already know. The rotated file is a new PDF. It is not an attempt to remove encryption. Unlock PDF is the page that copies pages into a document with no password, and only after that same password works.

Are annotations rotated too?

They stay on the page dictionary that was copied. Viewers place them using the page rotation, which is the normal PDF behaviour. This tool does not redraw them as flat ink. Flatten PDF is the page that burns form fields into the content.

What is the size limit?

The same as the other PDF tools. A soft warning appears around 200 MB, and the hard stop is 500 MB in memory. Rotation itself is light compared with a render. If the file will not open at all, Repair PDF may rewrite a broken cross-reference, and it still cannot rebuild a truncated download.
