Sign PDF pages with a flat image of a drawn or typed name

Sign PDF pages by drawing a name or typing one. A typed name is drawn in Caveat, a font hosted with this site, and that drawing becomes a PNG. The PNG is placed on the page as a flat image. It is not a digital certificate. A recipient can see it. They cannot verify an identity from it.

How to sign PDF files

  1. Add one PDF. If it is encrypted, type the password you already know.
  2. Type a name, or switch to Draw and write in the box. Type is the default. The typed name is drawn in Caveat. If that font does not load, the name is drawn in an italic serif fallback.
  3. Choose where it goes: Last page, This page, or All pages. This page uses the Page number field. Set X, Y, width, and height in points if the default box is in the wrong place.
  4. Turn on Add the date if you want the calendar date under the image, as YYYY-MM-DD. It is drawn in Helvetica, not in Caveat.
  5. Press Sign PDF and download the file. Read the note on the page: the mark is a flat image, not a certificate. The producer line is Upload Nothing (uploadnothing.com).

Sign PDF options explained

Place on offers Last page, This page, and All pages. Last page is the default. This page reads the page number, starting at 1. All pages repeats the same image on every page, at the same point position.

X and Y are in points from the bottom left. The defaults are 360 and 48, with a width of 180 and a height of 60. If the page is smaller, the image is shifted so it stays on the page. Width can run from 40 to 500 points, height from 20 to 240.

An empty name draws the word Signature, so the box is not blank by accident. Draw mode uses the strokes you make in the box. Both modes end as the same kind of PNG placement. Neither mode collects a certificate or a timestamp from a trust service.

A picture of a name

The mark is an image on the page. It does not fill a signature form field, and it does not create one. It does not include a private key. Checking the file in a viewer that looks for certificates will not show a valid signature identity, because there is not one.

Caveat is self-hosted for the typed name. The drawing is rasterised to a PNG and embedded. That is why a typed name and a drawn name behave the same after you press Sign PDF. The date, if you asked for it, is separate text under the image, in Helvetica, using the date at the moment you sign.

Anyone who can edit the PDF can cover the image or copy it onto another file. Password protect PDF can ask a viewer not to modify, and those flags are advisory in some viewers. Neither step turns this image into an identity check.

Where the image sits

Last page is the usual place for a signature block. This page is for a form where the line is on page 2. All pages repeats it, which is rarely what a signature means, and it is available when you actually want that.

Measure X and Y from the bottom left, in points. A default that looked right on letter paper can sit off a small page, and the tool nudges it inward. If the line on the form is elsewhere, change the numbers and sign again. The previous download is not edited in place.

Limits, formats and output

Accepted input PDF
Files per batch 1
Soft size warning 200 MB or 1,000 pages
Hard stop 500 MB total in memory
Output PDF, or a ZIP when there is more than one file
Account None. The tool runs in this tab.

Your file never leaves your device

Your signature is drawn onto the page by a script running in this tab. The work runs in a Web Worker in this tab, using WebAssembly for the heavy parts, and the result comes back as a local blob. This site does not upload the file, store it, or log its name.

To verify: load the page, turn on airplane mode, and drop the file again. It still finishes. Or open DevTools, choose Network, and watch the run: there is no upload. The architecture is described on How it works.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a digital signature?

No. It is a flat image of a drawn or typed name. It is not a cryptographic certificate. Recipients can see the mark. They cannot use it to verify an identity. The page says that before you download, and the result warns you in the same words.

Which font is the typed name?

Caveat, loaded from this site, not from a third-party font host. The typed name is drawn with it and then placed as an image. If the font file does not load, an italic serif is used instead, and the result is still a flat image. Draw mode does not use Caveat. It uses your strokes.

Can I sign one page in the middle?

Yes. Set Place on to This page and set Page number. Last page ignores that number and uses the final page. All pages repeats the image. X and Y are points from the bottom left, so raise Y if the line sits higher on the page.

What does Add the date write?

The date of the signing moment, as YYYY-MM-DD, in Helvetica, under the image. It is not a trusted timestamp. It is text. Turn it off if the form already has a date line you will fill another way.

Will the signature be selectable text?

The typed name is drawn and embedded as an image, so you do not select it as text afterwards. The date line, if you added it, is text. The rest of the PDF keeps whatever text layer it already had. This tool does not flatten the whole document.

Can I sign without uploading the contract?

The work runs in this tab. The PDF and the signature image are not sent to a server by this tool. There is still no certificate. If a counterparty requires a qualified electronic signature, this page does not provide one, and it should not be described as if it did.
