HEIC to PNG when you do not want a JPEG
Use heic to png when you want the decoded phone photo as a PNG rather than another lossy JPEG. The decoder is the same heic-to chunk used by heic to jpg: LGPL, separate, unmodified, and loaded on first use. It decodes to PNG, and this page keeps that PNG. There is no quality slider. Live Photos become stills, and the paired video is not included. The work stays in this tab.

How to turn heic to png
- Add a HEIC file, or up to one hundred. Drop, paste, or Choose files. The first convert in a session loads the heic-to chunk. Later converts reuse it.
- Do not look for a quality control. This page has none. The download is the decoded PNG, not a JPEG you can soften or sharpen with a slider.
- Plan for a larger file than heic to jpg would have made. PNG stores the decoded pixels without JPEG packing. That is the reason to pick this page, not a surprise.
- Treat a Live Photo as a still. The paired video is not included. You will see that limit in the result. There is no video download beside the PNG.
- Press Convert to PNG and download the file, or a ZIP when more than one PNG is ready. If you later need a JPEG, use png to jpg and set a background only if the PNG actually has clear pixels.
HEIC to PNG options explained
The decode path matches heic to jpg. heic-to runs as its own unmodified LGPL chunk, loaded on first use, and the decode format is PNG. This page stops there instead of re-encoding to JPEG.
There is no quality slider and no default of 85, because those belong to the JPEG encode. You cannot pick 40 or 100 here. The PNG is the decode.
Live Photos become stills on this page too. The paired video is not included. Choosing PNG does not unlock the motion.
A batch can hold up to one hundred HEIC files. Each becomes a PNG. A ZIP is offered when more than one download is ready. Expect the archive to be heavy if the photos are large.
Same decode, different ending
heic to jpg and heic to png share the decoder and then split. Both load heic-to the first time, both ask it for a PNG, and only the JPEG page runs a second encode at quality 85. Here the PNG is the file you download, so you are not choosing how hard a JPEG compressor should work.
Use this when the next tool rejects JPEG, or when you want to avoid one more lossy generation before a crop or a resize. The PNG can still be large. That is an honest trade. If the destination is a mail form that wants a small JPEG, you are on the wrong page.
No slider is not a missing feature
A quality slider on a PNG decode would imply a second lossy pass. This page does not add one. If the PNG is too big, compress png can run OxiPNG. Leave max side, target size, and colour reduction off if that pack must stay lossless. Turn colour reduction on only if you accept posterising to 32 levels.
Do not come here to strip notes from a JPEG you already have. remove exif data remuxes a JPEG so the pixels stay identical. A HEIC is not accepted on that page. Convert here or on heic to jpg first. The JPEG page already strips EXIF during its encode.
Stills only, even as PNG
The Live Photo limit does not change because the container is PNG. You get the still frame the decoder returns. The paired video is not included, and it is not packed beside the PNG in the ZIP.
The page does not resize, rotate, or crop during the decode. If the still is sideways, rotate image can turn the PNG afterwards. If you need a JPEG after all, png to jpg paints any transparency onto a background and encodes at quality 80. Most phone stills are opaque, so that paint often changes nothing visible.
Limits, formats and output
| Accepted input | HEIC |
|---|---|
| Files per batch | 1–100 |
| Soft size warning | 50 MB each |
| Hard stop | 500 MB total in memory |
| Output | The chosen image format, or a ZIP for a batch |

Your file never leaves your device
This HEIC file is decoded to PNG by code in this browser tab. The work runs in a Web Worker in this tab, using WebAssembly for the heavy parts, and the result comes back as a local blob. This site does not upload the file, store it, or log its name.
To verify: load the page, turn on airplane mode, and drop the file again. It still finishes. Or open DevTools, choose Network, and watch the run: there is no upload. The architecture is described on How it works.
Frequently asked questions
Is the decoder different from heic to jpg?
No. Both use heic-to, the LGPL chunk loaded unmodified on first use, and both decode to PNG. This page gives you that PNG. The JPEG page encodes it again at quality 85 and strips EXIF on that encode.
Why is there no quality slider?
Because the output is the decoded PNG, not a JPEG. There is nothing to set to 85 or 80. If you want that slider, use heic to jpg. If the PNG is large, compress png is a later, separate step.
Does a Live Photo include the video?
No. Live Photos become stills. The paired video is not included, same as on the JPEG page. PNG does not become a container for that clip.
Will the PNG be bigger than a JPEG?
Usually yes. You are keeping the decoded pixels instead of a lossy JPEG. Choose this page when you need PNG. Choose heic to jpg when you need a smaller file for a form.
Can I convert more than one HEIC?
Yes, up to one hundred. Download a ZIP when more than one PNG is ready. The first file pays the cost of loading heic-to if this session has not loaded it yet.
Can remove exif data open the HEIC?
No. That page does not accept HEIC. Convert with heic to jpg if you need a JPEG with EXIF already stripped, or convert here if you need the PNG. Do not expect this PNG page to be a metadata viewer.
