About Upload Nothing

Upload Nothing is a small set of PDF and image tools that run in the browser. Tam builds and runs the site from Langley, British Columbia, Canada.

Upload Nothing, a browser toolbox run from Langley, BC

Why this site exists

  1. A lot of everyday file jobs — shrinking a scan, joining two PDFs, turning an iPhone photo into a JPEG — are handled by sites that upload the file first.
  2. That is a bad trade for a contract, a medical form, or a photo of an identity document. The work does not need a server.
  3. This site does the same jobs in the tab you already have open, and it says so in a way you can check.

Who runs it

The operator is Tam, in Langley, BC, Canada. There is no company behind the name and no account system. The contact address is hello@uploadnothing.com. That mailbox is the way to report a broken tool, a privacy question, or a takedown.

The site makes money from display ads, once an ad network has approved it. There is no paid tier, no watermark in the file, and no upload fee. If ads are not switched on, the pages still work. The tools do not change behaviour based on whether an ad loaded.

What the site will not become

There will not be accounts, file history, or share links. A share link is a copy of the file on a server, and that contradicts the reason the site exists. There will not be a server-side fallback for large files. If a file is too big for the tab, the page says so and stops.

Office conversion and optical character recognition are not in this version. They are easy to advertise and hard to do well without sending the file away. The tool pages say what they cannot do, in the same place as the instructions.
