Delete pages from PDF and keep the rest of the file

Delete pages from PDF by naming the pages to drop. The rest are copied, in their original order, into a new PDF. The source file stays in the list. You cannot delete every page, because an empty PDF is refused. If you wanted only a few pages kept, Extract pages from PDF is the more direct tool.

How to delete pages from PDF

  1. Add one PDF. Enter the password you already know if the file is encrypted.
  2. Choose the pages to remove. Use the page list, or type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Blank means every page, which this tool will refuse, because nothing would remain.
  3. Check the list against the page numbers. 8- means from page 8 through the last page. A backwards range is an error.
  4. Press Delete pages. The kept pages are copied into a new document. Text, size, and rotation stay with each page. The outline is not copied.
  5. Download the new PDF. Compare the page count with what you expected. The original is still in the tab until you start over.

Delete PDF pages options explained

The Pages field uses commas and dashes: 1-3, 5, 8-. Pages are numbered from 1. A number past the end of the file is an error that includes the real page count. An empty slot from a double comma is an error.

At least one page must remain. Selecting every page stops the job with that reason. Delete the file from the list if you did not want any of it.

The new file is a copy of the kept pages, not a hole punched in the original bytes. Deleted pages are absent from the download. They are not hidden with a crop. The producer line on the new file is Upload Nothing (uploadnothing.com).

What remains in the download

Kept pages stay in their relative order. Deleting page 2 from a five-page file leaves pages 1, 3, 4, and 5, in that order. The tool does not renumber the content printed on the page. If the footer already says “Page 5”, it still says that. Add page numbers to PDF if you want a new series drawn on afterwards.

Form fields that lived on a deleted page go away with that page. Fields on kept pages are copied when the page is copied. A form that depended on a deleted page is your problem to check. Flatten PDF first if you need the answers burned in before you delete.

Bookmarks are not rebuilt. A bookmark that pointed at a deleted page would have been wrong anyway. A bookmark that pointed at a kept heading is still gone, because the outline is not copied. The heading text remains if it was real text.

Delete, extract, or split

Delete pages when the long file is the one you want to keep, minus a cover sheet or a blank. Extract pages when the short file is the one you want, and you would rather name the pages to keep. Split PDF when you want several output files from ranges or from every N pages.

None of these three renders the page. A scan stays a scan. Text stays text. If the goal is a smaller file rather than fewer pages, Compress PDF is the tool, and it will not remove pages for you.

Limits, formats and output

Accepted input PDF
Files per batch 1
Soft size warning 200 MB or 1,000 pages
Hard stop 500 MB total in memory
Output PDF, or a ZIP when there is more than one file
Account None. The tool runs in this tab.

Your file never leaves your device

Pages you remove are dropped by a script running in this tab. The work runs in a Web Worker in this tab, using WebAssembly for the heavy parts, and the result comes back as a local blob. This site does not upload the file, store it, or log its name.

To verify: load the page, turn on airplane mode, and drop the file again. It still finishes. Or open DevTools, choose Network, and watch the run: there is no upload. The architecture is described on How it works.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete every page?

No. The job stops if the selection covers the whole document, because the result would be an empty PDF. Leave at least one page. If you wanted a blank document, Organize PDF can insert a blank page, and you still have to keep a page in the list.

Does the original get overwritten?

The download is a new file. The PDF you added stays in the list until you start over or remove it. Closing the tab drops it from memory. It was not uploaded, so there is no copy on a server to delete.

How do I write the range?

Use 1-3, 5, 8- as the pattern. Commas separate entries. A dash is a span. A trailing dash runs to the last page. Page numbers start at 1. The tool names the page count when you ask for a page that does not exist.

Will page numbers printed on the page update?

No. Ink that already says a number is just text or a picture. Removing a page does not edit that ink. Add page numbers to PDF draws a new number in the corner you pick. It does not erase a number that was already in the design.

Are the remaining pages re-rendered?

No. They are copied. Text stays selectable. Rotation and page size stay as they were. The file can be slightly different in size because it is a new document, not because the pages were redrawn.

What if I only wanted those pages as their own file?

Use Extract pages from PDF and name the pages to keep. You can save them as one PDF or as one PDF per page. Delete is the opposite selection: you name what goes away.
